Maternity TENS | Babycare tens| TENS machine What is TENS TENS stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. This is a Physiotherapeutic modality & has been used in Physiotherapy departments for a long time & is still being used to help pain sufferers ease their pain. TENS is one of the most effective drug free pain relief treatment & the one patients can administer themselves once shown how to use it. Another benefit being that it is portable & can easily fit into your pocket. How does TENS work? TENS is a safe, non invasive & drug free. It works by passing gentle electrical impulses through the pads (electrodes) which stimulates the release of endorphins, the body's own pain relieving hormones. Maternity TENS TENS is being successfully used to ease pain during & after pregnancy. These are generally pocket sized, battery operated machines that the pregnant woman can use as needed to relieve her pains. TENS contraindications: -TENS is not suitable during the first 26 weeks of pregnancy. -TENS sould not be used by people who have a heart pacemaker. The above is not an exhaustive list of contraindications & you must consult with your Physiotherapist or doctor before using TENS.
